The Rochester-El Sauce sister city connection has taken roots in our hearts.

Like the trees we planted, our projects continue to grow.

In 1979 the Sandinistas overthrew the brutal Somoza dictatorship and instituted progressive health, education, and land reform programs in Nicaragua. During the Reagan years the U.S. let “Contra” war crippled these programs and left the country more impoverished.

The Ciudad Hermana Task Force was formed in 1987 to demonstrate our solidarity with the people of El Sauce and to help preserve the achievements of the Sandinista Revolution.  Our members are dedicated volunteers from all walks of life.

The Ciudad Hermana Task Force funds a scholarship program which helps 100 children attend primary school.  Our microlending program provides educational and financial support to individuals and cooperatives for sustainable animal husbandry and farming endeavors.  We provide critical medical supplies, sponsor a medical student practicum program, and fund community-developed potable water projects.  People from Rochester visit often--helping the people of El Sauce know that they are not alone in their struggle to overcome political, economic and natural disasters.

Our involvement remains steadfast.
